On Thursday, August 7, 2008, many people gathered at the Cementerio del Este to commemorated the 4th Anniversary of the passing of Mrs. Maria Esperanza de Bianchini

At the Chapel of the Cementerio del Este, Venezuelan and North American priests concelebrated Holy Mass. They had gathered together for this occasion. In all, there were four priests from different states of the United States of America, and three prelates from Caracas, Venezuela. The Betania Choir participated under the direction of Prof. Maria Auxiliadora Bianchini de Leon.

Reading a past message from Mrs. Maria Esperanza, Father Jose Rosendo Diaz, Chaplain of the Cemetery, began this beautiful Mass at 3:20 in the afternoon The message was, “We have to give, everyday we have to give small things, although they are not so big, but rather the small details of our daily life, the things you can give with kindness, love, and human solidarity. Always constantly give.” And then he added, “We ask God and all our brothers for this afternoon to be full of moments of great joy, a celebration for the saints, the angels, and all of us, people of goodwill. We here at the cemetery are proud of this Eucharist with our brothers who have come from different places.”

Then, the Betania Choir interpreted Christus Vincit and Father Timothy Byerley said, “Welcome, my dear friends, to this Divine Liturgy, a Mass to remember Mrs. Maria Esperanza. Those of us who had the great privilege of knowing her have the great responsibility of spreading the message of love and reconciliation. It is an honor to count with the presence of all these priests, per se it is a sign of the authenticity of her life.”

During his homily, Father Tim pointed out, “The Spirit of God has gathered us here today, in the cemetery where Maria Esperanza has been laid to rest.

”When we see Maria Esperanza’s life and when we try to reach the core of what she tried to do for God and her brothers, what comes to mind are all of the extraordinary mystical gifts she had: The grace of reading our souls, the grace of foreseeing our future, the grace of knowing about our past; we all were transparent in front of her, and despite this, Maria Esperanza never focused on our flaws, in fact, she only focused on the facts that could promote in us the salvation of our souls. So these mystical gifts are the first things that come to mind; they definitely were gifts that God gave her for her mission.

”But what truly was outstanding about her was her service, it was this little taste of the love of heaven. She herself was transformed by this love of God and she felt impelled to share it with others, and urged others to be a reflection of this love.

”We know from the history of our faith that God sometimes chooses certain individuals with special gifts, so the essence of the message of these chosen ones can be appreciated by those who listen. Maria Esperanza’s message, if you stop to hear it, is nothing else but the same Gospel, that is nothing different than to love God and our brothers.

”What she is trying to teach us begins in our homes, with our couple, loving our spouse with the love that God sheds upon us, and then loving our children, and, of course,  loving those who it is hard for us to love. We have to start taking chances with love. It could be that in certain moments our love may be rejected, we can even be hurt, but we have to put our ego aside. This is what Maria Esperanza did, she always answered with love.”

After Mass, Mr. Geo Bianchini addressed a short message in which he spoke about the last moments they spent with his wife, Mrs. Maria Esperanza, but he highlighted that her presence was still among them, showing them the way that she followed, a path of true love to all the human beings that approached her, a path of true brotherhood. “She understood our inner needs. And she gave us the guidelines that would lead us to the path of truth: to love each other deeply. And this is the greatest teaching that we have received: to love our families and all the people that cross our lives. May this teaching accompany us today more than ever. Our Lady of Betania has come to tell us, ‘Children, reconcile.’”

Then, they all headed to the place where the mortal remains of Mrs. Maria Esperanza are. All the area practically was filled with her family, friends, and her acquainted. They prayed the holy rosary, and afterwards each child of hers and each one of the priest shared heartfelt words with everyone. This was how they spent an afternoon filled with memories, love, and confirmation in their commitment to support and serve the holy mother the Church, just like she had taught them.
